Long before he found success as a dominant right-hander for the Oakland As and was named MVP of the 1989 World Series Dave Stewart was an upstart hurler throwing fastballs for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Selected by L.A. in the 16th round of the 1975 amateur draft Stewart made his MLB debut for the Dodgers in 1978 but spent the next two years finessing his pitches in Triple-A with the Albuquerque Dukes. From 1981 to 83 Stewart played with the Dodgers and compiled an overall record of 15-6 before being dealt to the Texas Rangers in August of 83. This lot features one of Stewarts L.A. Dodgers home jerseys from the early 80s. The No. 48 jersey offered here shows significant wear with the original red-and-white W.A. Goodman & Sons manufacturers tag sewn on the inside of the rear collar.
The trademark Dodgers name in blue script across the front of the jersey is superb with slight fraying evident but more fraying is obvious to the No. 48 in red tackle twill just below it to the right. His name STEWART appears in blue tackle twill lettering as does his uniform number (48) just below it. Besides slight staining on the back due to game usage the historic shirt is otherwise problem-free and without visible alteration of any description. A terrific artifact from the early days of a major league pitcher who went on to record four straight 20-win seasons albeit with the Oakland A's.
