The late Don Drysdale was a pitching great for the Los Angeles Dodgers who had plenty of admirers on and off the field. His charitable work for organizations and institutions in and around Los Angeles was well documented. This lot features a pair of Westwood Shrine Club awards that were presented to Drysdale at different junctures in his life. The first award the Westwood Shrine Club Merit Award was presented to Drysdale on August 16 1965 right in the middle of another of his successful seasons on the mound in L.A. The engraved plaque reads in part: In Recognition of his Outstanding Sportsmanship. Great Athletic Achievements and Exemplary Conduct. Both on and Off the Baseball Field. Has Become an Image and Inspiration in Encouraging Good Citizenship Among the Youth of America. The engraved plaque which includes the engraved signature of then-Westwood Shriner Club President jack Rice measures 12.5 wide by 14.5 high. One of the two original "Westwood Shrine Club" raised emblems is missing from the plaque.

The second award called the 1988 Sports Achievement Award includes the name of then-Westwood Shrine Club President Howard Brauer at the bottom. Presented to Drysdale on January 13 1988 the gold framed plaque measures 11 wide by 14 high and reads in part: In recognition of singular allegiance to the programs and efforts on behalf of the Shriners Hospital for Crippled and Burned ChildrenWho as a dedicated and lauded baseball star and TV broadcaster has inspired youth everywhere to strive for excellence in all areas of endeavor and behaviorWhose personal involvement and commitment to assisting the less fortunate in our community has served as an inspiration for every noble of this organization.
