In July 1960 then-23-year-old Dodgers pitching great Don Drysdale recorded six straight victories from July 3rd to July 31st. He mowed down in succession the Pittsburgh Pirates (6-2) and recorded eight strikeouts; Chicago Cubs (7-1) eight Ks; San Francisco Giants (5-3) five Ks; Philadelphia Phillies (2-0) 14 Ks); Cincinnati Reds (2-0) six Ks; and the Milwaukee Braves (7-5) six Ks. For his efforts Drysdale was named National League Player of the Month by the N.L. Baseball Writers and Broadcasters Assn. This lot features the engraved sterling silver award that he received which measures 11.75 in diameter. The front of the serving tray reads: Presented to DON DRYSDALE Los Angeles Dodgers in Recognition of Being Names National LeaguePlayer of the Month for July 1960 by N.L. Baseball Writers and Broadcasters. It is engraved with the signature of National League President Warren Giles.
