Dodgers Hall of Famer Don Drysdale retired from playing competition following the 1969 MLB season and immediately turned his focus to broadcasting. The next year he started off on a broadcasting career that continued for the rest of his life: first for the Montreal Expos (1970-71) then the Texas Rangers (1972) California Angels (1973-79 1981) Chicago White Sox (1982-87) NBC (1977) ABC (1978-86) and finally back in Los Angeles with the Dodgers from 1988 until his death in 1993. This lot features a unique trophy that Drysdale was awarded in 1988 his first season back with the Dodgers since retiring. For his impressive contributions behind the microphone Drysdale was awarded this Special Achievement Award by The Sporting News. The 12 tall trophy boasts a black acrylic base with a clear acrylic top that houses a bronze The Sporting News medallion that shows pitcher catcher and batter. The award which measures eight inches across weighs just over 11 pounds.
