Starting in mid-May of 1968 Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Don Drysdale set a major league record that many thought would never be broken. Pitching six consecutive shutouts stretching from May 14th versus the Cubs until June 4th against the Pirates Drysdale recorded 58-and-two-thirds innings of scoreless pitching. The old mark of 56 scoreless innings was pitched by the late great Walter Johnson. Drysdales streak finally ended in the fifth inning of the teams 5-3 win against the Phillies on June 8 at Dodger Stadium. Despite the streak coming to an end Drysdale still earned his seventh straight win. He struck out 46 batters during the awe-inspiring stretch of time. Twenty years later another Dodgers ace Orel Hershiser set the new major league record by pitching 59 consecutive innings without allowing a run.

This lot features a specially engraved pewter plate acknowledging Drysdales feat that stretches 14 in diameter. It was awarded to Big D on Sept. 27 1969 at Dodger Stadium during the Don Drysdale Day festivities by the Los Angeles-Anaheim Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America. It line-lists the dates and final scores each of his six shutouts plus the seventh victory vs. the Phillies. The top of the pewter plate reads: DON DRYSDALE 582/3 Innings of Shutout Pitching All-Time Major League Record. A magnificent award earned by an incredible pitcher.

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.
