In 1959 for the first time ever Major League Baseball hosted a pair of Midsummer Classics. The first game between the American League and National League All-Stars was played on July 7 1959 at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania home of the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NL. The game resulted in a 54 victory for the National League. Dodgers pitching great Don Drysdale just 22 at the time was named to his first National League All-Star squad and started the game on the mound for the Senior Circuit. Drysdale pitched three innings worth of no-hit shutout baseball and struck out four A.L. All-Stars but did not get the win.

This lot features a special collection of beer steins that were awarded to each of the participating players including Drysdale. Housed in a green felt-lined wooden presentation box that measures 25.5 wide by 12.5 deep by five inches high there are seven of the original eight unmarked metal steins remaining. The nondescript metallic steins measure five inches high by five inches wide at the handle. The top of the wooden box boasts a specially mounted gold plaque thats engraved with the following text: ALL STAR GAME Pittsburgh Pennsylvania July 7 1959 DON DRYSDALE. The top of the 57-year-old wooden presentation box shows some scuff marks no doubt absorbed during multiple moves through the years.

Includes LOA from the Drysdale Family.
