If Clyde Lovellette thought his high school basketball career would be the high point of his career, he was wrong. Lovellette became one of the University of Kansas’ greatest basketball stars, leading the Big Seven in scoring three straight seasons and bringing home the NCAA Championship in 1952. His outstanding college career led to his being chosen for the 1952 Olympic team, where he then won a Gold while leading all players in scoring. These two pins are keepsakes Clyde chose to hold on to throughout his life as a reminder of his glory days at KU. This rare 10K gold Sigma Chi fraternity pin measures 4 x 2 centimeters, The cross-shaped pin has a white enamel center with gold fraternity symbols, including a set of crossed keys, on each of the arms of the cross. A black enamel oval at its center has the Greek letters for “S” and “C” in gold. The two horizontal arms of the cross have delicate links of gold chains attached to the top of the cross and the back has a standard pin mounting system. Lovellette’s initials of “C.F.L” and class year “52” are engraved into the back of the pin. The accompanying pin is presumably from the Kappa Kappa sorority. Measuring 2 x 2 centimeters, the gold pin has a black enamel center with a gold “KK” logo. The condition of both pins are very good, with the expected abrasions and scuffs from wear and age. Accompanied by an LOA from the family of Clyde Lovellette.
