If ever a sports figure were literally and figuratively bigger than life Wilt Chamberlain was that player. Like Wayne Gretzky in hockey a generation later Wilt's arrival in the NBA changed the way the game was played as defenses adjusted - or tried to adjust - to this 7-1 giant who could seemingly score and rebound at will. Chamberlain holds numerous NBA all-time records in scoring rebounding and durability categories. He is the only player to score 100 points in a single NBA game or average more than 40 and 50 points in a season. He also won seven scoring nine field goal percentage and eleven rebounding titles and once even led the league in assists.[Chamberlain is the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season a feat he accomplished nine times. He is also the only player to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game over the entire course of his NBA career. These remarkable "bronzed" shoes trace their roots to Chamberlain's 1971-72 season with the Lakers when he teamed with Hall of Famers Jerry West Gail Goodrich and Elgin Baylor to propel the club to a 69-13 regular-season record and ultimately the NBA crown.

The Size 17 Converse All Star shoes are extraordinary heavy molding that fills each shoe and solidifies the shape. Each shoe was also treated with a bronze-like finish creating a presentation much similar to the more conventional bronzing of shoes quite precisely maintaining virtually all of the detail of the shoes' canvas leather and rubber materials right down to the intact laces and tongue and shoe's soles. Truly an extraordinary artifact from one of the true NBA legendary figures and one of the most successful teams in the league's fabled past.

Comes with a Letter of Provenance from Bill Bertka.
