ADDENDUM: THIS IS A CIRCA 1957-61 DETROIT LIONS GAME WORN JERSEY NOT AN OHIO STATE JERSEY.
Featured here is a Circa 1957-1961 Detroit Lions road white jersey game worn and signed by 1955 Heisman Trophy winner Howard "Hopalong" Cassidy. A member of the College Football Hall of Fame Cassidy rushed for 2466 yards and scored 37 touchdowns over his 36-game Ohio State career including 964 yards and 15 touchdowns in his 1955 Heisman season. A two way player as a defensive back he never allowed a receiver to beat him over the top during his four years at Ohio State. Drafted #3 in the 1st round of the NFL draft by the Detroit Lions he never quite lived up to expectations over his eight seasons in the NFL yet his legacy as one of college football's all-time greats will always be remembered.
Cassidy has signed the jersey on the upper left shoulder "Hopalong Cassidy 55" in 8/10 black felt tip pen. The white jersey has blue stripes on both sleeves with large blue number "40" sewn on both front and back. Rawlings St. Louis size 44 Lippman Sporting Goods Detroit and washing instruction tags are sewn in the back tail. The jersey exhibits excellent game use with some stains and soiling. There are about a half a dozen marks on the front the result of being mounted in a frame at one time. What a tremendous pre-Super Bowl era NFL game-worn jersey from a gridiron great!
Includes a Letter of Provenance from The Newport Sports Museum.
