The 11th FIBA World Championship tournament was hosted in Argentina from August 8-19, 1990. This marked the last major international tournament in which the U.S. Men’s National Basketball team featured a roster only of amateur-level college players. Christian Laettner, a member of the famous “Dream Team” that changed everything at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, was going into his junior year at Duke when he suited up in these offered warm-ups for Team USA in the Southern Hemisphere.
USA’s head coach for the 1990 FIBA tournament was a familiar face for Laettner: Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski. Despite having a formidable group of college stars including Georgia Tech’s Kenny Anderson and Georgetown’s Alonzo Mourning, USA finished in third place to take the bronze medal. A loaded Yugoslavia squad led by Drazen Petrovic, Vlade Divac, and Toni Kukoc – still united before dividing into multiple nations due to the Bosnian War – defeated the Soviet Union for the gold medal.
Laettner’s USA Basketball navy blue warm-up suit comes with a snap-button shooting shirt and a pair of matching sweatpants. The short-sleeved top has the USA hoops logo on the left chest and a FIBA 100th anniversary patch on the right sleeve. An identical pattern of three red stars over a white section unites the shirt and pants. Both are tagged by Champion, with the shirt marked size 46 behind the collar and the pants indicating size 40 within the waistband. Each article of clothing shows a moderate amount of wear. Laettner has signed the reverse side of the shooting shirt and the upper left leg of the pants in bold black Sharpie.
Includes LOA from Christian Laettner. Both signatures were witnessed by an SCP representative; we guarantee them to pass any third party authentication.
