The 1989 Tournament marked the first of four straight Final Fours that Christian Laettner made during his remarkable college career. Laettner was a freshman at Duke an understudy to Danny Ferry who was the NCAA Player of the Year that season. Even as a reserve Laettner contributed 24 points against Georgetown in the East Regional Final to help the Blue Devils advance to the Final Four where they would fall to Seton Hall. He averaged 8.9 points and 4.7 rebounds in under 17 minutes per game as a freshman. This is the very first NCAA Tournament ring presented to the man who would graduate four years later as perhaps the greatest college basketball player of all-time.

The ring has a black stone in its center with “NCAA” in silver ringed with “FINAL FOUR 1989” in raised letters. The left shank has the Duke University logo and the right has a ribbon with “LAETTNER” above a ball and basket motif. “JOSTEN’S LTM” is engraved on the inside of the band. The ring shows minor wear and is housed in its original wooden display box featuring the NCAA medallion on its lid. Includes Laettner LOA.
