Leo Durocher nicknamed Leo the Lip was a longtime major league manager who skippered the Brooklyn Dodgers New York Giants Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros. A controversial and outspoken character Durocher had a stormy career dogged by clashes with authority umpires (his 95 career ejections as a manager trailed only McGraw when he retired and still rank fourth on the all-time list) and of course the press. His 2009 career victories as a manager were hard to ignore however and he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994.
This lot features a pair of Durochers game-worn New York Giants managers home pants that he donned during the early 1950s. The pair of flannel white pants includes proper Spalding manufacturers tagging in the inner rear waistband next to which rests an embroidered cloth tag that spells out Leo Durocher in black script chain-stitching. A dry-clean only tag is also present as is the waistband size of 38. Giants orange-and-black piping extends the length of both legs. The pants are preserved incredible well; the only distraction being a large stain perhaps a coffee spill on the outside rear waistband area. Original zipper and two white buttons for the two rear pockets remain intact.
