Heres your chance to bid on an awesome pair of game-worn Converse "Magic" sneakers worn by the great Ervin "Magic" Johnson circa 1983. Magic gifted these incredible gamers to a Madison Square Garden security guard he befriended over the course of many road games vs. the New York Knicks during that period. The Lakers won the NBA Championship in Magic's rookie season (1979-80) and again in his third year (1981-82). In the end of the '83 and '84 seasons both ended with losses in the Finals to the 76ers and Celtics respectively. Photo evidence indicates that Magic wore this signature 'Magic' style of Converse during both of those years. Magic led the NBA in assists both seasons including a career best 13.1 average in 1983-84. He is the greatest point guard of all-time in most books.
The size 14.5 high-tops with the Converse star logo in purple on each side and behind the heel show significant wear on the white leather canvas with stretch marks/creasing on the heel & ankle and contact marks throughout. Some scuffing on the fronts and the early stages of a tear in the back right heel. Both insoles heavily worn and the interior foam padding is beginning to crumble as well. The original laces are intact. Magic has signed the right side of each ankle in 8/10 bright blue marker with his No. "32" inscribed. The lucky security guard got to know many former Knicks and opposing players including Magic Dr. J and Michael Jordan on a personal level during their many visits to the Garden in the 1980s. He is the same source as the Michael Jordan and Dr. J game-worn shoes that sold in our Spring '14 Auction and is still employed there today.
Includes a Letter of Provenance from the MSG security guard.
