Former football player and Hollywood actor Fred Dryer wore thisofferedcirca 1978 jersey during the latter part of his NFL career with the L.A. Rams.The defensive end had one of his finest seasons in '78 with 51 tacklestwo forced fumbles three fumble recoveries and a blocked kick. Dryeris unique in that he is the only player to ever record twosafeties in one game. The New York Giants' 1969 first round draft pickout of San Diego State joined the Rams in 1972 and was First TeamAll-Pro in '74 and made the Pro Bowl in '75. He finished up his13-year playing career with the team in 1981. Dryer then began a secondcareer as an action star in Hollywood including the starring role inthe TV series “Hunter”. He is a member of the College Football Hall ofFame.
Dryer’s 1978 white home jersey has his number “89” on the front back and shoulders in gold appliqué. Gold trim rims the shoulders and collar of the mesh jersey and “DRYER” in white letters on a blue nameplate on the back. A Sand-Knit size “50” label is in the lower left front tail with a LOS ANGELES RAMS/MEDALIST SAND-KNIT label sewn above. The jersey shows excellent evidence of game use including a soiling/contact mark on the front '9' along with some team repairs to the body. The colors remain bright on this all-original gem. A great late ‘70s gamer from a popular celebrity on and off the field.
This piece includes a letter of provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
