The offered Thurman Munson New York Yankees cap originated from a 1977 charity auction conducted in Killingly CT. The auction was held to benefit a school sponsored trip for the marching band to Orlando FL. The school booster club was able to secure various sports related materials from several different professional franchises including the offered Thurman Munson hat. The hat was purchased by a woman named Jean Brennan from the 1977 charity auction and it remained in the Brennan family for more than three decades. Included with the cap is an unrelated postmarked Aug. 23 1977 New York Yankees envelope sent to Brennan along with a secretarial signed ""Thurman Munson"" card stock piece. Munsons c.1977 New York Yankees professional model hat retains its original NY logo on the front with interior leather band displaying ""Pro KM Cap"" mfg. labeling. Stamped as size ""7"" along with Pro Km logo. A period number "15" is written in black marker under the bill is consistent with other documented exemplars of Munson game worn material including a hat and other items originating directly from Munsons personal collection. The hat itself exhibits strong use appropriate for a catcher inclusive of perspiration toning to both front and back with the majority to the anterior portion. Additionally the hat size 7 is similar to other known Munson hat exemplars. Only a handful of documented Thurman Munson game hats exist possessing both exceptional usage qualities and strong provenance.
