Hall of Famer Clyde Lovellette now 86 years old was the first basketball player in history to play on an NCAA championship team Olympics gold medal-winning basketball team and NBA championship squad. A native of Petersburg Indiana the 6 9 Lovellette fostered the trend of tall physical and high-scoring centers.

Selected by the then-Minneapolis Lakers with the ninth pick overall in the 1952 NBA Draft Lovellette helped the team claim the 1954 NBA title before moving on to play for the Cincinnati Royals (1957-58) the St. Louis Hawks (1958 to 62) and the Boston Celtics (1962 to 64). During his first season in St. Louis 1958-59 Lovellette helped the Hawks to a 49-23 record as teammate Bob Pettit took home league MVP honors. In the playoffs however the Hawks were stunned by the Lakers in six games. This lot features Lovellettes game-worn St. Louis Hawks satin warm-up jacket. The size 48 Rawlings red satin jacket from the late 50s remains in remarkably good shape given its age and includes the Rawlings manufacturers tag on the inside right front tail. Boasting an elastic white collar and waistband sporting red-and-blue stripes the jacket features Hawks sewn across the left front chest in blue cursive outlined in white. Across the back also in blue cursive outlined in white is St. Louis. The left sleeve includes Lovellettes uniform number (34) in like fashion. A basketball artifact from the early days of the NBA off the shoulders of a one of the games great early big men.
