There was no other play in baseball as exciting as a close play at the plate. As fierce a competitor as they come, Jackie Robinson seems to have more than his share of home plate drama, as this brilliantly composed action shot shows. The bare-headed Robinson glides over the Ebbets Field home plate in a cloud of dust as the opposing team’s catcher waits for a throw that is already too late. Teammate Gil Hodges watches the action unfold while the umpire prepares to call the play “safe!” The action-packed photo was taken by the Dodgers’ famed team photographer, Barney Stein. The Type 1 photo has been printed to its edge. There is just very light edge wear, which does not intrude upon the image in any way. The reverse has the Barney Stein credit stamp. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.

Payment for your invoice must clear in full prior to shipping. All items will be shipped from SCP Auctions’ Laguna Niguel, CA office in the order that payments are received. Please allow up to three business days following clearance of payment for items to ship. All items will be shipped UPS/FedEx Ground unless you contact us to discuss an alternative shipping method. Prior to bidding, please be aware of estimated shipping costs, especially for large or heavy lots.
