There is no sports-oriented comedy routine as beloved as Abbott & Costello’s “Who’s on First?” The comedy duo first performed the sketch shortly after teaming up in 1936. First performed on vaudeville stages, the bit was introduced to a broader audience when it was broadcast nationwide in 1938. From then on, the hysterical wordplay was a staple of Abbott & Costello’s act, whether it was in a nightclub, a Hollywood film, or a radio show. This photo shows the pair in the midst of the routine on the field before the Hollywood Stars’ opening day game in the mid-1950s. Lou Costello dons a Hollywood Stars ballcap, and several ballplayers can be seen laughing along as they perform the iconic routine. The Type 1 photo has several creases in the corners, and there is what appears to be a small tear on the right side border. The reverse of the photo has the Sporting News credit stamp and hologram sticker, along with various handwritten pencil notations. The photo has been encapsulated by PSA and graded a Type 1 Authentic.
