On November 15, 1948, Jackie Robinson made his debut as a sportscaster for radio station WMCA in New York. He was contracted to do the "The Jackie Robinson Show" six nights per week. The program lasted until 1952 when he signed a deal with WNBC. Upon retiring from the Brooklyn Dodgers after the '56 season, Jackie became Vice President at Chock Full 'O Nuts. Offered here is a used microphone attributed to his first radio program at WMCA.

The WMCA cardboard sign was the promotional header that went on the top of the microphone used on the program. The header is attached to a vintage RCA mic that may not have been his but is typical of the period. A more modernized mic stand completes the set-up, giving it a Red Barber or Vin Scully look and feel. With the sign on top, it measures approx. 20" tall. The sign remains VG/EX and the microphone is in EX condition. This piece was originally sold at a major auction in 2001.
