The 1939 Rose Bowl featured the USC Trojans (82) against the undefeated Duke Blue Devils (90). In a tightly fought battle Duke took a 3-0 lead early in the fourth quarter following a 23-yard field goal by Tony Ruffa. However USC backup quarterback Doyle Nave completed four straight passes to "Antelope" Al Krueger who outmaneuvered Eric "The Red" Tipton on the fourth completion to score the winning touchdown with one minute to go. Krueger's touchdown marked the first points scored against Duke during the season. For his performance in the game Al Krueger was inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1995. This lot includes a circa 1939 Al Krueger game-worn and autographed USC Trojans helmet. The well-worn Wilson leather helmet minus its chin strap has been signed in silver by Krueger across the front. The signature is strong and rates 8-9/10 in our book.
