Breathtaking original action photo featuring the two best first basemen in the American League during the Roaring '20s: Lou Gehrig and George Sisler. The latter won an MVP and two batting titles during the first half of the 1920s, while the former dominated the second half with an MVP and two World Series titles. This photo snapped in St. Louis’ Sportsman’s Park captures Sisler sliding feet-first back into first, where Gehrig stands ready with the tag. The cloud of dirt and the intensity on Sisler’s face really make this one stand out. That it depicts the AL's two best first basemen makes it all the more desirable.
The image has excellent contrast and a warm sepia tone throughout. The reverse is blank save for “Gehrig & Sisler” along with the number “2” handwritten in pencil. An amazing live-action shot (6x 8") from baseball’s most romantic era. Encapsulated as Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
