This exceptional original photograph of Hall of Fame second baseman Eddie Collins dates to the most notorious season in baseball history when he was a member of the 1919 Chicago "Black" Sox. While Collins was not accused of being part of the "Eight Men Out" who threw the World Series against the Reds, his uncanny .226 batting average during that Fall Classic sure was perplexing given his .333 lifetime clip.Snapped by Charles Conlon, the most prestigious baseball photographer of his era, this timely shot of Collins following through after a left-handed swing is typical of the master's work. Our circa 1919 dating comes from this caption on Getty of the exact same image: https://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/eddie-collins-2nd-baseman-of-the-chicago-white-sox-at-bat-news-photo/641476426Two small creases on the top section and light chipping at a few edge points are the only noticeable condition issues. The reverse has Conlon's handwritten pencil notes along with three stamps from the Brown Brothers archives. Collins was considered the finest second baseman of his generation. A true treasure from Conlon!DATE: C. 1919GENERATION: First (printed from original negative)PHOTOGRAPHER: Charles ConlonISSUER: Brown BrothersSIZE: 7 x 9.25CONDITION: NMAUTHENTICATION: PSA/DNA Type 1 Encapulated
