The Reach company and American Art Works spared no expense in the design and production of this tin advertising sign one of a small series of displays produced by the company c. 1910. This early era of the 20th century was the Golden Age of the tin litho sign and the renowned athletic supply company founded by baseball pioneer Al Reach set the standard in designing these spectacularly colorful pieces to promote its wares. The Reach company did not take their efforts lightly a fact which is duly noted by the company on the signs reverse. There printed upon the cardboard backing is the company's instructions to their retail agents: "This sign is one of a series and costs us big money to have them made. They are for our mutual benefit and if you will take the trouble to see that it is displayed in a good place we know that it will increase your sales of Reach sporting goods. If for any reason you do not care to hang it up kindly return it to us and we will put it to work elsewhere. " This beautifully preserved Reach sign offered here advertises the company official League Ball. Its appealing graphics and lettering are lightly embossed providing an subtle three dimensional effect. Considering the amount of wear that typically accompanies such tin signs the preservation of this piece is remarkable. This fresh example grades in Excellent condition with only a few sparse flecks of wear. The original cord for hanging remains intact. Within the genre of tin lithograph advertising this 6 in. by 13 in. sign ranks among the finest baseball related pieces known.
