Offered here are Brian Wilson's personally owned pair of 2011 Nike Air MAG retro sneakers. This limited edition release pays homage to the memorable self-lacing shoes worn by Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) in Back to the Future II. In the 1989 film, Marty time travels to the year 2015 and turns on his Nike MAGs with self-tying power laces before hopping on a hoverboard to skate away from Biff. That iconic Hollywood moment has inspired multiple releases by Nike, including the Nike MAG (2011), Nike MAG (2016), the Nike Adapt Mag (2019).

In 2011, Nike released 1,500 pairs of first edition Air MAGs through special charity auctions to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Designed by Tinker Hatfield with glowing LED panels and a built-in battery, these were the first ever rechargeable sneakers and they became an instant pop culture phenomenon for sneakerheads and nostalgic collectors.

Born in 1982, Brian Wilson falls into both categories. The Giants All-Star closer known for his flashy cleats was a fortunate 2011 auction winner of the earliest released Nike MAGs and was one of the first to be seen wearing them in public. In fact, "The Beard" wore them in the dugout during a September 16, 2011, game in Denver against the Rockies. He was also spotted in them scootering to home games in San Francisco.

These incredibly scarce shoes are still immensely popular and very expensive to acquire. StockX, a prominent seller of collectible sneakers, sold its last pair for $18,500 and currently has one listed at $19,940. Sotheby's sold an original pair in April 2024 for $27,720. This pair has the benefit of being owned by a celebrity athlete and one of the first worn in public.

Showing moderate wear, these MAGs are in great condition and come in Wilson's size 13 with internal Nike tagging showing a manufacture date between 8/11/10 and 12/17/10. We tested the LED and USB charging port (located on the heel within the white lace strap on the heel), and all elements are in perfect working condition. The original Nike yellow box, orange product authenticity card, and instructions manual with CD are included. B-Weezy has provided a signed LOA confirming they come from his personal collection.
