Outstanding George Brace photo postcard signed across the front in 8/10 blue ball point pen by Hall of Fame manager Billy Southworth. Following a 13 year playing career as an outfielder that saw him bat .297 Southworth turned briefly to managing in 1929 piloting the Cardinals in 89 games before being fired. After another turn as a very successful manager in the minors he was back with the Cardinals again as manager for the last 111 games of the 1940 season. There he took the 6th place team to a 3rd place finish. 1941 through 1945 saw Southworth lead the Cardinals to 3 National League pennants and 2 2nd place finishes. He won World Championships in 1942 and 1944. He took over the Boston Braves in 1946 signed a reported $50000 a year contract. In 1948 he led the Braves to their first National League pennant since 1914. Unused postcard is in very clean EX-MT condition. On back at top is neatly written in dark blue ink "SOUTHWORTH Bill". Southworth was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2008 but passed away almost 40 years earlier in 1969 making him one of the tougher and much sought after autographs for Hall of Fame collectors.
