Bill Wambsganss was a second baseman who played in the major leagues from 1914 through 1926. He played for the Cleveland Indians Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Athletics and is best remembered for making one of the most spectacular defensive plays in World Series history an unassisted triple play. In Game of 5 the 1920 Fall Classic between the Cleveland Indians and the Brooklyn Dodgers Wambsganss playing second base caught a line drive off the bat of Clarence Mitchell stepped on second base to put out Pete Kilduff and tagged Otto Miller coming from first base. It remains the only triple play ever recorded in postseason play. This lot includes a single-signed baseball signed by Wambsganss in blue ink across the sweet spot. The baseball shows some toning over time but the signature is intact and rates a 7-8/10 in our book.

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Newport Sports Museum.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
