This letter was written to Bill Dickey from Christy Walsh on September 5 1933 informing him of his selection to the All-America Baseball team. The AAB awards were bestowed upon the best players in the game following the regular season and were the most prominent means of recognition in the sport before the evolution of All-Star Game. The recipient of this letter Bill Dickey was one of the finest catchers in baseball history. In 1933 Dickey batted .318 with 14 home runs and 97 RBI. The great Babe Ruth was Chairman of the All-America Board of Baseball. He along with sportswriters from Major League cities voted for AAB honorees during the early and mid-1930's. The letter executed on "Christy Walsh Syndicate" letterhead that features facsimile signatures of other board members including Ruth Mack Gehrig and McGraw has been signed by Walsh in dark black fountain pen (9/10). The letter mentions that Dickey "will also receive the usual sweater with the All-America insignia" and request that he reply with his sweater size. The letter has been artfully matted and framed along with a period "All America" cloth insignia (presumably Dickey's own) to 14" x 25" overall dimensions. This unique and highly displayable combo is an exceptional commemoration of Bill Dickey's greatness. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (auto.)
