Lot of 20 Philadelphia Eagles Pro. Football Club payroll checks from 1939 signed by Pro Football Hall of Famer Bert Bell. Bell was a co-founder and co-owner of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1933. He also coached the team. He was the creator of the NFL draft. In 1940 he bought part of the Pittsburgh Steelers and was elected commissioner of the National Football League in 1946 a post he held until his death in 1959. Under his tenure Bell negotiated the merger of the NFL with the AAFC unilaterally recognized the NFLPA and assisted in negotiating the first pension plan for the players enacted an anti-gambling resolution into the NFL constitution developed regular season schedules with the purpose of increasing the competitive balance within the league and persuaded the owners to act together to enhance the league's popularity and it's financial viability. For his many accomplishments as commissioner he was posthumously inducted into the charter class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. Strong vintage Bert Bell blue ink signatures on great condition checks.

All the checks are payroll checks. Thus besides Bell the have the signatures of the players to whom they were given on the back. The players are: Elmer Kolberg Woody Dow Joe Carter Jay Arnold Joe Bukat Drew Ellis Bruno Cuppoletti William Hughes and Maurice Harper.

SMR value for a Bert Bell check is $200.
