In spite of his rapidly diminishing skills Babe Ruth showed one last glimpse of his former greatness. On May 25 1935 playing for the Boston Braves in Pittsburgh Ruth homered in his first two trips to the plate singled in his third appearance and in the seventh inning hit a ball over the right field roof of Forbes Field. It was his final major league home run and it was in grand Ruthian fashion a monster shot. The crowd let loose a mighty roar as the old slugger hobbled around the bases. When he rounded third the pitcher Guy Bush tipped his cap to the Babe who smiled and saluted back. It was the last home run he would ever hit number 714. At that point in baseball history no other player had ever hit even half that many. It was a record that would stand for nearly four decades.

This red and blue stitched Western League ball features a perfectly rendered Babe Ruth signature in black ink on the heart of the sweet spot (8/10). The ball's light to medium toned surface shows a nice vintage patina with only moderate evidence of handling and no distracting blemishes. On the south panel below Ruths autograph is the vintage black ink date notation May 26 1935. While the notation is not attributable to Ruths hand it appears to be contemporary to the ball. Given the circumstances and timing of Ruths signing this ball while confronting the end of his playing career this is certainly among the most remarkable of many Ruth signed baseballs weve handled. EX to EX-MT condition overall.
