The great Babe Ruth was called the Sultan of Swat as well as "The Bambino. The long ball hero and 1936 Hall of Fame inductee from the vaunted New York Yankees lineup during the 20s and 30s launched a total of 714 home runs during his illustrious career and helped the Yankees to claim seven American League pennants as well as four World Series championships (1923 27 28 and 32). This lot features an original oil painting on canvas of Ruth done by renowned sports artist Palmer Murphy in 2003. The beautifully painted portrait shows Ruth sporting Yankees pinstripes sitting inside a blue dugout with one of his trusty Hillerich & Bradsby Louisville Slugger bats draped across his lap. Murphy has managed to capture the essence of the fabled baseball hero in all his glory with this innocent portrayal of one of the most feared hitters in Major League Baseball history. With its stretched canvas positioned inside a wooden brown frame the overall piece measures 38 wide by 50 high.
