Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig are frozen in time in this extraordinarily detailed statue by renowned artist Palmer Murphy. This rare piece was created in 1994 as noted by the copyright date engraved along the back left border of the base. A small metal plate situated at the back of the base between the statistics of the two players notes the edition No. of 174 of 1927. Although this is a modern work Murphy has crafted the piece in the tradition of classic baseball figural art of the 19th century; it is rare to see a figural work of such uncompromising quality and high-production values today. This 4" by 6" by 9 ½" tall statue pictures the two Yankee greats on a stand with their script signatures engraved on the front and "Palmer Murphy" and the players 1927 statistics on the back. Murphy is best known for his bronze statues and his work has been displayed at both the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and at the Babe Ruth Museum in Baltimore. This is an extremely high quality work of art which could be displayed proudly in many settings and different types of collections.
