Arnold Palmer was one of the greatest golfers of all time. Now 86 years young Palmer is retired but remains one of the most complete players in men's professional golf history. He won several events on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour dating as far back as 1955. Nicknamed "The King" he is one of golf's most popular stars and without a doubt one of its most important trailblazers because he was the first superstar of the sport's television age which began in the 1950s. Palmer won a total of seven majors: The Masters (1958 60 62 and 64); the U.S. Open (1960); and The British Open (1961 and 62). This lot features a beautifully oil painted portrait of a young Arnold Palmer (circa mid 50s) on a canvas that stretches 36 across by 48 high. In what appears to be a post-swing moment during yet another competitive round of golf Palmer appears to be watching the flight of his ball. Sporting brown slacks a white polo shirt and an aqua-colored button-down sweater Palmer is captured in a majestic pose with a sun-tanned face and a fierce gaze toward the future of what turned out to one of the most illustrious careers ever on the links. The canvas has been signed by Palmer in what appears to be slightly faded black marker and by the artist in white paint (bottom right corner).

Includes Letter of Provenance from the Wyckoff Family.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
