Angelo Dundee who trained the two most celebrated fighters of his era Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard and 15 world champions in all began his Hall of Fame career in 1952. Dundee was in Ali's corner for the Fight of the Century the Rumble in the Jungle and the Thrilla in Manila and in Leonard's corner for his No Mas match against Roberto Duran as well as his memorable fights against Thomas Hearns and Marvin Hagler. Other boxers trained by Dundee included George Foreman Carmen Basilio and Willie Pastrano. In a sport of drama and explosiveness dealing with fighters spouting hyperbole and filled with emotion Dundee was the perfect complement always calm always analytical ever able to maintain his cool whether in the sweltering heat of Manila or the fury of Zaire.
It is only fitting that one of the giants of the boxing world as a trainer and manager would end up with an actual World Boxing Council Championship Belt of his own in this instance a Special Award presented posthumously to Angelo Dundee in the days following his death in February of 2012. Seemingly as untouched and pristine as the day it was awarded the heavy green-leather belt features an enormous brass WBC-engraved buckle the spectacular centerpiece metal oval of approximately 10 inches in diameter showing the flags of the world and the four 2-inch in diameter glass ovals picturing Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali (one of each on both sides). Also provided is an 11-by-15-inch World Boxing Council Certificate of Authenticity (Nr-Mt) with official stampings and signature from Jos Sulaimn the late founder and former president of the WBC. This belt was last sold (for $8908) as part of the Angelo Dundee Estate Collection auction conducted by SCP in 2012.
Comes with an LOA from the Dundee Family signed by Angelo's son Jim.
