It was September 24, 1989, at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. The Eagles were cruising to a 28-17 win over the 49ers with seven minutes left to play in the 4th quarter. That’s when 49ers quarterback Joe Montana showed why he was nicknamed, "the Comeback Kid" and launched into one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history. Montana threw four touchdown passes in seven minutes to make the game 38-28 in San Francisco’s favor.
This stunning action shot by noted sports photographer Michael Layton captures Joe Montana amid his historic 4-TD onslaught at the Vet. The Type 1 photo measures 8” x 10” and comes in essentially mint condition. The back has Michael Layton’s credit stamp and Sporting News hologram along with several handwritten notations including one noting its use in the Sporting News Football Guide. Encapsulated Type 1 by PSA/DNA.
