When Gary Sheffield stood at the plate shaking his bat back and forth in the direction of the pitcher, it was no wonder he was one of the most feared hitters of his time. "Sheff" as his teammates called him was known for his incredible bat speed and ability to "jump" onpitches and jerk them out of the park--509 times to be exact. But they guy wasn't just a power hitter. He hit for averageas well, regularly batting over .300 (.292 for his career) and walking over 304 more times than he struck out. Featured here is one of Sheff's game-used bats that served him well on his pursuit and entry into the elite 500 Home Run Club. In fact, he jacked homer run number 480 with it on September 12, 2007, while playing for the Detroit Tigers. The two-run blast came in the 1st inning off Edinson Volquez of the Texas Rangers and helped the Tigers win the game in front of their home crowd, 5-1.

This X-Bat Professional 'Model SG3' black and mahogany two-toned gamer has a custom white tape job around theknob that tapers up the handle, a unique feature found on his many late Sheffield bats.Sheffield wore number 3 in 2007-08 for the Tigers and his decal No. "3" is affixed to the knob end--barely visible through a gap in the tape. The 34.5", 35 oz. bat is un-cracked and shows outstanding use with pine tar on the handle and multiple ball contact marks pn the barrel. Sheffield has signed the barrel in 9/10 silver Sharpieand precisely inscribed it "Career Homerun #480 vs. Texas Rangers 9/12/07 Pitcher Edinson Volquez." His own “Sheff 3” hologram is affixed at the end of the barrel.
