On August 28 2001 the San Diego Padres traveled to St. Louis to take on the host Cardinals in a game at Busch Stadium II in which the Padres prevailed 5-2. The occasion also marked the last trip to St. Louis for soon-to-be-retiring Padres great Tony Gwynn. That evening the Cardinals awarded Gwynn this beautifully framed and matted black-and-white portrait of Tony by longtime St. Louis Post-Dispatch sports and weatherbird artist Amadee Wohlschlaeger thats positioned alongside a list of several career achievements Gwynn obtained. A total of 38 members of the Cardinals ball club (including some retired greats) autographed the matting around the portrait in black ballpoint pen. Notable signatures include Hall of Famers Lou Brock Stan Musial Red Schoendienst and (then-Manager) Tony La Russa along with standout sluggers like Mark McGwire and Albert Pujols. The overall presentation piece measures 23 wide by 26 high and includes a special gold plaque that is engraved in black at the bottom with the following passage: Presented to Tony Gwynn On this occasion of your last visit to St. Louis as an active player. Congratulations on a great career and best wishes on your retirement. Presented by the St. Louis Cardinals and their fans. August 28 2001.

Includes Letter of Authenticity from the Gwynn Family.

Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
