It would be difficult to overstate how cool this full uniform is. This would be a great piece if it were worn by your Uncle Ned at cousin Vinnys bar mitzvah; the fact that it was actually worn by former White Sox slugger Carlos Quentin in a 2008 Throwback Jersey game against the Detroit Tigers one in which Quentin homered off none other than Justin Verlander makes it nothing short of sensational. Major League Baseball has a checkered history in its gleeful embrace of throwback jerseys over the years but like any other endeavor there is still the occasional home run. This is one of those times a stunning navy blue with silver pinstriping re-creation of the iconic uniforms worn by the great Chicago American Giants in the Negro leagues from its inaugural season in 1911 to the late 1950s even beyond the opening of the major leagues to players of color in 1947. The jersey and pants are problem-free and seemingly as issued displaying an elegance that probably wasnt part of the everyday picture of Negro baseball in America. The Size 48 shirt has AIS tagging on the back of the tail with the famed Major League Baseball Authentication hologram affixed to it (and also to the similar AIS tagging on the waistband of the pants. On the shirt Chicago appears in white tackle twill in the distinctive old English typeface with Quentins No. 20 in white tackle twill on the back. An oval CA logo also in white tackle twill appears on the left sleeve. Pants have an equally impressive presentation with the AIS tagging at the back of the waist with attached flag tags with 30 and 40. Nearby a navy blue strip tag has 20 embroidered in white. Zipper and snap on the pants are in working order; all elements of pants and shirt could hardly be imagined in a superior condition. The urge actually call it a compulsion to try this baby on and take a fast selfie was excruciating but I resisted because it would have been: a) thoroughly unprofessional; and b) I dont know how to take a selfie. Truly a great piece for serious White Sox fan or perhaps for one of the ardent supporters of the great Negro league clubs of the last millennium. Comes with a Letter of Authenticity from Major League Baseball.
