After leading the Chicago Bulls to a then-record 72-win regular season and their 4th NBA title Michael Jordan entered the 1996-97 campaign eager to add to his legacy. He averaged 29.6 points 5.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists as the Bulls nearly matched their previous win output with a 69-13 record. They rolled through the Eastern Conference playoffs losing just two games before facing the Utah Jazz in the ’97 Finals. It was a competitive series but the Bulls would prevail in six highlighted by MJ's instant classic "Flu Game" in the decisive Game 5. Featured here are Michael’s actual game-worn Air Jordan XII’s from Game 2 at the United Center in Chicago. Jordan had another amazing performance with 38 points 13 rebounds and nine assists in Chicago’s 97-85 victory to put the Bulls up 2-0. The sneakers have been conclusively photo-matched by the experts at Resolution Photomatching and come with a detailed letter of provenance documenting their acquisition.
Another Tinker Hatfield creation the Nike Air Jordan XII has a clean design inspired by the Japanese flag. The rich leather upper is stitched to resemble a rising sun while the toe and accent overlays are made of faux reptile leather. The Jumpman logo and the slogan "TWO 3" runs down the tongue. It also features silver metal lace loops with Jumpman logos and an elongated pull tab on the heel labeled with the Jumpman logo "JORDAN" and "QUALITY INSPIRED BY THE GREATEST PLAYER EVER." Jordan's No. "23" is stamped on the rubber heel base that connects to the outsole. These black and white colorways come in Jordan’s traditional size 13 and are properly labeled with "970103 LN3" player-issued coding on the internal flag tags. Original Nike insoles remain intact; the laces appear to be the originals.
MJ has blessed each shoe with his signature in perfect 10 black marker on the lower sides. They display solid game use with evident heel drag scuffing and creasing in the faux leather. A black paint transfer on the bottom of the left shoe was instrumental in determining the photo-match. AJ XII's were constructed to last and these present in outstanding as-issued condition. To the best of our knowledge this is the first “photo-matched” pair of Michael Jordan NBA Finals game worn shoes to ever hit the auction block. Not even the famous “Flu Game” pair that sold for over six figures holds that distinction.
Each shoe comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA and Fanatics Authentic hologram sticker (#1097098 & 1097099)for the autographs. Includes a detailed letter of provenance from a former Chicago sportscaster and season-ticket holder. LOA from Resolution Photomatching using Getty 1389049 to confirm the photo-match.
