The actual shirt Ali wore to light the torch at the Opening Ceremonies is on display at the Centennial Olympic Games Museum which is housed at the Atlanta History Center. Stewart Lathan archivist for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games (ACOG) was responsible for putting together the 1996 Atlanta Olympic collection and had Ali sign the actual shirt he wore before it was donated to the museum. Ali signed a second shirt for Stewart's personal collection where it has remained ever since and now comes to auction. We could find no records of another Muhammad Ali signed official Atlanta Olympics torch relay / Opening Ceremonies shirt ever sold in the market. Essentially that makes this one of two known that Ali has autographed. Obviously the shirt worn in the Opening Ceremonies is a historic one-of-a-kind piece. But the apparent scarcity of this particular shirt and the magical moment it represents makes it a special Ali item to own.
