Isaiah Thomas has always played much bigger than his 5’ 9” stature; he had no other choice. After starring at the University of Washington the dynamic point guard was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 60th and final pick in the 2011 NBA Draft—basketball’s version of “Mr. Irrelevant.” He improved steadily his first three plus years with the Kings and Phoenix Suns but it wasn’t until landing in Boston via a midseason trade in 2014-15 that he found a permanent home and a system in which he could thrive. And the little man nicknamed “IT Guy” hasn’t just thrived he has exploded into a superstar.
This lot presents Thomas’ game-worn road alternate jersey from the Celtic’s April 16 2016 playoff contest at the Atlanta Hawks. Isaiah led all scorers in that Eastern Conference first-round opener with 27 points and dished out eight assists in a tight 102-101 loss. It comes with impeccable documentation from MeiGrey/NBA and Fanatics and is photo-matched by the experts at Resolution Photomatching. The shifty lefty with tremendous range and a nose for the basket was named to his first All-Star team in 2015-16 averaging 22.2 points and 6.2 assists. This year his scoring average jumped to #3 in the NBA at 28.9 as he led the Celtics to the best record in the Eastern Conference at 53-29. The fourth quarter has become known as “IT Time” with his ability to take over games down the stretch.
In the early morning hours of Boston’s 2017 playoff opener—one year to the day of wearing this offered jersey—Thomas lost his 22-year-old sister Chyna in a tragic car crash. With a heavy heart IT dug deep and lifted the Celtics from an 0-2 first-round deficit to win four straight over the Bulls. Then in Game 2 of the Conference Semifinals Isaiah delivered one of the most awe-inspiring performances in postseason history erupting for 53 points in a thrilling 129-119 overtime victory over the Wizards—this on the heels of losing his front tooth in Game 1 and enduring two dental surgeries beforehand. In franchise history only John Havlicek (54) has scored more points in a playoff game. The #1 seed Celtics prevailed in seven games to advance to the Conference Finals. Thomas was recently named to the All-NBA 2nd Team and is a legitimate MVP candidate.
The green mesh shirt with black trim has "BOSTON" sewn across the chest in black embroidered letters outlined in white tackle twill with Isaiah's No. "4" front and back in the same color format. “THOMAS” is sewn directly across the upperback in white tackle twill with the official NBA embroidered patchjust above. On the left front tail is the appropriate Adidas manufacturer's tagging indicating size "L" with a Length +2" flag tag and adjacent is the NBA Authentics tag coded "BCE 03851." Inside the left inseam are the washing instructions and "06/15" manufacturer’s date tag. The Celtics "17X" gold tag commemorating the team's 17 NBA titles appears on the rear collar. The shirt has been laundered but exhibits solid wear characteristics including puckered numbers several loose threads and frayed numbers that can be easily photo-matched to Getty 521680732.
