Before his controversial kneel down during the national anthem created a political dividing line, Colin Kaepernick seemed to be on a path to superstardom with the San Francisco 49ers. His first season of real action came in 2012 and it didn't take long for him to became the poster boy of a new generation of dual-threat quarterbacks that left defensive coordinators shivering in their boots. While mobile quarterbacks were nothing new — think Fran Tarkenton or Aaron Rodgers, both masters of extending plays within the pocket — Kaepernick and his contemporaries brought something different: a genuine willingness to attack downfield as runners, not just scramble to survive.

Featured here are the QB gloves Kaepernick wore during one of the most explosive performances in postseason history: a 45–31 upset over Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the 2012 NFC Divisional Playoff (played on Jan. 13, 2013) at Candlestick Park. After shaking off an early pick-six, Kaep completely took over, rushing 16 times for 181 yards — still an NFL record for a quarterback — including a 56-yard touchdown run that remains the longest rushing score by a quarterback in playoff history. He also threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns, adding two more scores on the ground, for a staggering 444 total yards of offense. Remarkably, this all came in just his eighth career start and first ever playoff game.

Both are signed in silver sharpie on the palm, though the ink has smudged a bit, with his jersey number and noted half inscriptions: "Colin Kaepernick 7, 1st Half" and "Colin Kaepernick 7, 2nd Half." The glove from the 2nd half, when he famously took it to the house from 56 yards out and kissed his bicep in the end zone, has been conclusively photo-matched by Davious Sports.
