Future Hall of Famer Mike Trout used this Old Hickory bat during his upward trajectory from the minors to the majors in 2011. Trout started the season with the Arkansas Travelers (AA) where he batted .326 with 11 homers and 33 steals in 91 games. An injury to Los Angeles Angels outfielder Peter Bourjos in July opened the door for young Mike to get his first call-up to The Show.
Trout played in a dozen games before he was sent back down to the Travelers. He returned to big leagues in mid-August, finishing his MLB debut season with a .220 average in 40 games and 123 at-bats (5 HR, 20 runs and 16 RBI). The following season, the New Jersey native would be named American League Rookie of the Year and has since gone on to win the AL MVP Award three times (with four runner-ups).
The Old Hickory J143 professional model bat (33.5" and 33 oz.) shows outstanding use with several contact marks, blue ink transfers and white leather scuffs on the barrel. It has a handle crack that has been repaired. There are abrasions and impressions from his cleats and batting donuts on the barrel as well. The knob end and lower handle have been taped in a spiral pattern and a there is a moderate coat of pine tar still present. The bat has been professionally graded a near-perfect GU 9.5 by John Taube of PSA/DNA.
