SCP Auctions is proud to present a collection of 41 game-worn Jackie Robinson Day Major League Baseball jerseys from the New York Yankees. The No. 42 jerseys represent the MLB seasons from 2009 to 2014 and include a total of 35 past and present Yankees players who competed on Jackie Robinson Day (April 15) during any of those six different years. Jackie Robinson Day is a traditional event which occurs every year in MLB ballparks across North America to commemorate and honor the day Robinson made his major league debut: April 15 1947. Initiated for the first time on April 15 2004 Jackie Robinson Day is a celebration of Robinson's debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers (now the Los Angeles Dodgers) that ended almost 80 years of baseball segregation. In acknowledging Robinsons historic and heroic role in breaking baseballs color barrier all players coaches and managers on both teams as well as the on-the-field umpires wear No. 42 jerseys on April 15th. Robinsons number was retired in 1997 by Major League Baseball on the 50th anniversary of his extraordinary feat.

All 41 jerseys were consigned to SCP Auctions by the Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1973 by Rachel Robinson (Jackies widow) as a vehicle to perpetuate the memory of Jackie Robinson through the advancement of higher education among underserved populations. The historical significance of this blazing jersey is difficult to summarize touching as it does on the life of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson and one of the most beloved and important figures in the Yankees modern dynasty from the late 1990s and into the new millennium. This white button-down pinstripe jersey was worn by Yankees great catcher Jorge Posada as part of Major League Baseballs honoring of Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson in 2011 when every MLB player would wear Robinsons No. 42 in commemorating his historic breaking of baseballs infamous color barrier in April of 1947. The Yankees tangled with the Texas Rangers on the anniversary date April 15 2011 losing 5-3 in front of 40814 fans at Yankee Stadium with Posada playing in his last of 17 years with the Yankees as he capped a sterling career. With lifetime totals of 275 home runs and 1065 RBI Posadas role in four Yankees World Series titles can hardly be overstated. While most often utilized as the backstop for those great Yankees staffs of the era Posada was making a rare appearance as the designated hitter on this day going 0-for-1 and walking three times. The garment has the famous Yankees pinstripes and Jackie Robinsons famed No. 42 on the back with the Yankees interlocking NY logo on the left chest all in navy blue tackle twill. There is a tag with Majestic Authentic Collection on the front tail. There is an MLB authentication hologram that is affixed to the main Majestic tag; below that is a 2011 tag and a 50 tag indicating the year and size of the jersey. There is a New York Yankees embroidered flag tag with Posadas No. 20; atop that is a flag tag indicating +1 inches on the body. The MLB logo on the back of the collar is embroidered in white silver and navy blue stitching. The jersey is problem-free and without visible alteration of any description.
