Offered here is an lovely 2010 FIFA World Cup (South Aftrica) gold winner's medal presented to a Spanish National Team official. Spain's first ever World Cup winning team was led by the masterful midfield combination of Andres Iniesta and Xavi throughout the tournament hosted for the first time in the continent of Africa. In a classic final match at Johannesburg's famous "Soccer City" stadium, La Roja defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time. The battle for World Cup glory was hard fought and exhausting for viewers and referees as there were 14 yellow cards issued throughout the match. The lone goal came from Iniesta with four minutes left in extra time shortly after Dutch defender John Heitinga was ejected from the match after receiving his second yellow card.FIFA World Cup winner’s medals issued to the world champions are incredibly scarce and few have hit the auction block. Fewer than 50 official winner’s medals were issued by FIFA to members of the top three finishing teams. It features a high relief etching of the famous FIFA World Cup trophy (hallmarked "©1974 FIFA TM") on the obverse and "2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa" on the reverse. Measuring 6 cm in diameter (5 mm thick) and weighing 110 grams (ribbon included), the gold-plated medal presents in excellent condition with some wear from handling. The attached blue ribbon with "FIFA" stamped in white is in great shape as well. Includes its original navy blue pouch with the gold stamped letters of "RFEF" (Real Federación Española de Fútbol) from the Royal Spanish Football Federation (who issued these medals only to players, coaches, executives and a select number of team staff members) mostly worn off.
