In 2024, Rafael Nadal retired from tennis after a GOAT-worthy career that lasted 23 years. At age 38, the beloved Spaniard was done dealing with two decades of pain in his foot from the incurable Mueller-Weiss syndrome. It was truly the end of an era. Who will ever match Rafa’s athleticism, perseverance, intensity, and desire to compete on the court? We know one thing. No player will come close to equaling his 14 French Open titles and dominance on clay. His 22 Grand Slams overall are second only to Novak Djokovic on the men’s all-time list.
Offered here is a Nadal match-worn Nike shirt from the 2010 French Open, culminating in another triumph for the clay-court maestro. #2 seed Nadal defeated #5 seed Robin Söderling of Sweden in straight sets (6–4, 6–2, 6–4) for his fifth title at Roland Garros and seventh grand slam overall. For the second time in his career, Rafa did not lose a single set in the tournament and regained the world #1 ranking from Roger Federer. He would go on to take Wimbledon and the U.S. Open for three straight major titles, finishing the 2010 calendar ATP season with a 71-10 record.
The Nike player-exclusive quad-shirt comes primarily in shades of blue, teal and green with a white Swoosh logo on the left chest. Inside the collar is Nike flag tagging that reads “CUSTOM ATHLETE” with no size indicated. On the inner front left tail are wash instructions with a “SU100901SAC CUSTM” coded manufacturer’s flag tag. The shirt displays moderate wear with stretching in the collar and arms. It appears to have been laundered post-use.
Many tennis shirts are nondescript and, thus, virtually impossible to photo-match. Unfortunately, this was the case as Sports Investors Authentication was unable to make a conclusive match. The provenance is impeccable as it came from a member of Nadal’s inner circle shortly after the tournament – the same source as several photo-matched Nadal items we have auctioned including Rafa’s 2010 U.S. Open shirt that sold for $72,000 in 2024. A letter of provenance is provided.
