A fascinating and well-documented game used bat from the 2009 World Series champion New York Yankees, shared by two members of that title team and attributed to a specific home run. This Louisville Slugger model 'F123' professional model bat was ordered by veteran utility man Eric Hinske, and has also been confirmed by PSA/DNA as being used by Yankees outfielder Johnny Damon. The Yankees outfielder has signed and inscribed the barrel with reference to his 23rd home run of the 2009 season, part of a 24-homer campaign in which he helped lead the Bronx Bombers to their 27th World Series championship. Hinske, the 2002 American League Rookie of the Year, joined the Yankees midseason.
The 34" maple bat displays the Louisville Slugger 125th anniversary barrel stamp, the M9 centerbrand and "Eric Hinske" in facsimile script with "New York Yankees" stamped beneath. Hinske's number "14" is written on the top of the barrel, and Damon's number "18" appears on the knob. PSA/DNA describes heavy use throughout, with abundant ball marks, stitch impressions and ball transfers. The bat was broken into two pieces and has since been professionally repaired, which is visible on the barrel. Damon has autographed and inscribed the bat with his jersey number "18" and "2009 Game Used HR #23" and "WSC" [World Series Champs] in bold blue marker on the front barrel.
Bats used by two players from a championship roster, complete with a specific home run notation, offer an unusually compelling narrative. Bat expert John Taube has given it a PSA/DNA GU 7 grade--about as high as can be expected for a broken bat used by two players. Damon's autograph and inscription have been verified by GRAD Authentication.
