At his peak, Andy Murray could play with anyone and spent 41 weeks as the world's #1 ranked player in 2016. If not for the triumvirate of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic often stealing his thunder, Murray would surely have more than three grand slam titles to his name. When building a legacy, sometimes timing is everything. Besides his 2012 U.S. Open championship and two Wimbledon titles (2013 & '16), Murray has won two Olympic gold medals (2012 & 2016) and has finished runner-up in six majors (five Australian Opens). Now 36 years old, he continues to grind on tour hoping to add to his 45 career ATP singles titles. As it stands today, Andy Murray is highly regarded as perhaps Great Britain's greatest men's player of all time.Presented here is Murray's Head personal model racquet from the 2009 French Open where he advanced to the Quarterfinals. The Head Radical MicroGel racquet exhibits outstanding evidence of match use with a large scrape on the upper rim of the frame along the bumper guard, exposing the graphite under the orange paint. There are two small cracks at that same point on the upper rim. Five of the cross strings have broken near the top and the purple grip is heavily worn. "Andy Murray" is stamped in black inside the throat on one side across from a white sticker reading "TUE 62", which stands for Tuesday and 62 points of string pressure. The tournament was played from May 24 to June 7, and the only Tuesday that Murray played on was his June 2nd quarterfinals lost to Fernando Gonzalez of Chile. Whether this racquet was used in that match cannot be 100% confirmed, but this sticker is a sure indication that it was in Murray's rotation. And judged by the level of wear and tear, it definitely saw action either early in that match or in prior Roland Garros matches. Our consignor has a large tennis collection and attends many matches in person. He has many connections and is able to procure most of his items from either tournament officials or the player's inner circle. This racquet was sourced directly from a French Open racquet stringer. An exceptional example from one of this century's greatest players. Includes LOA from Sports Investors Authentication.
