Presented here is a 2008 UEFA Euro Cup gold winner's medal issued to Spanish National Team staff member. Spain defeated Germany 1-0 in the Final thanks to a goal from Fernando Torres to win its second Euro Cup, and first since the nation's inaugural appearance in 1964. David Villa won the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer with four goals, while midfielder Xavi was named Player of the Tournament. It was the beginning of a glorious run for La Roja as they would win the 2010 FIFA World Cup and then repeat as Euro Cup champions in 2012.
The obverse has the UEFA EURO 2008 Austria-Switzerland logo. The reverse has a depiction of the official EURO Cup trophy named after Henri Delanauy, the French football executive largely responsible for the creation of a European Football Championship between World Cup even off-years. Measuring 6 cm in diameter and weighing 106 grams (ribbon included), the gold-plated medal presents in EF condition with very little wear. The red ribbon is in perfect shape as well, emblazoned with "UEFA EURO 2008" and "Austria-Switzerland" along with the tournament logo repeated in white. Includes its original navy blue pouch stamped with RFEF (Real Federación Española de Fútbol), the Royal Spanish Football Federation, who issued these medals only to players, coaches, executives and a select number of team staff members (fewer than 50 in total by most estimates). A letter of provenance is included from this one's recipient.
