Featured here is an incredible pair of Kobe Bryant Nike Hyperdunk sneakers game-worn early in the Los Angeles Lakers' 2008-09 NBA championship season. They are attributed to two December road games 12/20/08 at Indiana and 12/5/08 at Washington. They were originally sourced through a Wizards employee following the latter game and can be easily style/photo matched. Kobe scored 28 points and 7 rebounds in a 118-117 loss to the Pacers. He tallied 23 points 7 boards and 7 assists in a 106-104 win over the Wizards. 2008-09 was a special season for the "The Black Mamba"—one that certainly elevated his legacy—as it was his first title without the oversized helping hands of Shaquille O'Neal. A year after earning league MVP honors Kobe played in all 82 games averaging 26.8 5.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists as the Lakers finished with the best record (65-17) in the Western Conference en route to beating the Orlando Magic in the NBA Finals. Kobe was named Finals MVP.
These black purple and gold ‘Kobe 4 Hyperdunk’ colorways were designed for Lakers away games to match up with their road purple uniforms. The initial colorway in white was worn during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The interior tagging of the lightweight high-tops indicates his size 14 along with "SEASON H008" and "PROMO SAMPLE 20081030" confirming a 10/30/08 manufacturing date and that they were player-issued and not for public consumption. The snazzy purple and gold insoles are stamped with “HYPERDUNK” numerous times. The tongues are emblazoned with the Kobe Nike gear logo in yellow. Original black laces are present. Kobe has added a 8-9/10 silver beautiful autograph to each shoe on the outer toes. Both exhibit appropriate game use with moderate heel drag and light scuffing. What a wonderful offering from the feet of the 18-time All-Star 5-time World Champion and basketball legend.
What makes these Kobe Hyperdunks even more popular and significant for collectors is the fact that Kobe wore the same “Mamba-black” colorway in Nike’s famous viral video of him jumping over an Ashton Martin. Or did he?
