David Ortiz was clubbing homers for the Red Sox and U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton was making a run as Democratic primary candidate for POTUS when “Big Papi” signed one of his game-used bats for the former First Lady. This Nokona ‘NK-243’ pro model dates to 2007. The affable Dominican slugger had arguably his greatest season as he batted a career-high .332 with 35 big flies and 117 RBI. He led the AL in walks and OBP and had the best WAR (6.4) of his Hall of Fame career. To top it off, the Red Sox won their second World Series in a four-year span.
The two-toned maple bat has a black-painted upper section and standard lower finish separated by a golden band in the middle. A Dominican Republic decal flag is positioned next to the central gold band. Ortiz used Nokona, a Texas-based brand, intermittently in addition to Rawlings from 2007 to 2010. The bat is uncracked and shows light to moderate usage with a few contact marks. The length ("34.5") and weight ("33.25") are marked on the knob. His uniform No. "34" is written in gold marker on the barrel end. Ortiz has autographed the barrel with the personalized message “To Miss Hillary Clinton, Thanks” in gold paint pen (9/10). Our consignor used to work for someone with strong connections within the Democratic party. Includes LOAs from JSA and PSA/DNA (pending) for the autograph and inscription. Additional LOA from bat expert John Taube of PSA/DNA (GU 7.5).
